About · J. Norman Dixon

Grounded in experience.
Driven by inquiry.

Two decades in human resources, payroll systems, operations, and federally regulated environments built a foundation that now informs doctoral scholarship in Ethical Leadership at St. Thomas University and a growing body of independent research. That research spans leadership theory, organizational ethics, human cognition, artificial intelligence, technology, political economy, and more — rooted always in the questions of how people lead, how institutions behave, and what the evidence actually shows when those questions are examined carefully across disciplines.

My career began in the regulated, exacting work of payroll and federally compliant research documentation, and grew through more than a decade of frontline operations management — leading teams of up to 47 people, owning the day-to-day, and building the human infrastructure that keeps organizations functioning. Those years raised questions I could not answer from inside the work itself: why do some leaders build trust while others erode it under the same conditions? Why do institutions so often fail to live out the values they publicly claim? What does ethical leadership actually look like when the stakes are real and the answers are not in a policy manual?

Over the past several years, I balanced primary caregiving for a family member with completing a B.S. in Leadership and an M.S. in Organizational Leadership. During that same period I developed working fluency with applied artificial intelligence and workflow automation — learning how these tools behave under real-world constraints rather than controlled demonstrations.

I am now pursuing doctoral studies in Ethical Leadership at St. Thomas University, where the focus is on leadership theory in its full scope — servant, transformational, authentic, ethical, adaptive, and distributed frameworks — and on the philosophical, psychological, and historical foundations that explain why certain approaches to leadership produce genuine human flourishing while others do not. Alongside the doctoral work, I conduct independent research that ranges more broadly: across artificial intelligence and its implications for learning and cognition, political economy and wealth concentration, human evolutionary biology, visual communication in leadership, media accountability, and the ethical dimensions of emerging technology. The thread connecting all of it is not a single subject — it is a commitment to examining whatever the question demands, from whatever disciplines the evidence requires, without deciding the answer before the research is done.

Alongside doctoral work, I conduct independent research on artificial intelligence, education, and human cognition — producing long-form investigative reports that draw from psychology, philosophy, organizational theory, and cognitive science. The research is self-directed and independently produced, grounded in the conviction that understanding complex questions requires looking at them from more than one direction.

03 · Signature Methodology

The four-layer
source verification protocol.

Four-Layer Source Verification · T1–T4 Reliability Scale

Every research report produced under the Zeilx Independent Research brand — and every source used in doctoral coursework — goes through a four-layer verification protocol before inclusion. This methodology was developed to address the systematic source quality failures that undermine AI-assisted research: fabricated citations, delisted journals, misattributed claims, and commercial sources dressed as scholarship.

Layer 1
Existence

Does the source actually exist at the claimed DOI, journal, and author attribution?

Layer 2
Provenance

Is the publishing journal indexed in Scopus, PubMed, or Web of Science? Is the publisher credible?

Layer 3
Corroboration

Does at least one independent source confirm the core claim or finding?

Layer 4
Disconfirmation

Has contrary evidence been actively searched for and addressed?

T1 — Primary

Peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus, PubMed, or Web of Science. Nobel Prize-recognized institutions. Primary government and intergovernmental sources.

T2 — Verified Secondary

Reputable institutional publications, established think tanks, verified academic preprints with peer review pending.

T3 — Contextual

Quality journalism, industry reports, and secondary sources used for context only — never as primary evidence for research claims.

T4 — Excluded

Commercial newsletters, delisted journals, unverified blogs, AI-generated citations, and any source failing Layers 1 or 2.
